Julie Stam left behind her hometown of Watseka, Ill., her family and even a twin sister to pursue her education at Butler. "It didn't even faze me," she said. "I never felt alone at Butler." Julie was looking for a college show-choir program to truly flex her muscles and discovered our program while at a competition hosted by Butler in Nashville. "Butler's program was 100 percent set apart from the others I'd looked at," Julie related.
Though Julie had never considered teaching before, she was connected to Wichita Children's Theatre through Butler and, for the last six years, has been teaching jazz and tap dance to students from 3 years old to seniors in high school.
One of the things she strives to convey to her students is the sense of character she built at Butler; attributes she observed in her instructors. "I learned that having a strong character and being there for others is the best way to influence the world around me," she said. "I learned to invest in students as people; dance is secondary."

"I would be suprised if other colleges felt like home the way Butler did."
